What AI actually recommends to Singapore SMEs: a 45-answer study (July 2026)

We asked ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Claude the five questions Singapore SME owners actually ask about social media help — three times each, 45 web-grounded answers in total — and recorded every tool, agency and source they named. The headline: 44 of 45 answers recommended only global tools. Perplexity said outright that no major AI marketing tools are built exclusively for Singapore SMEs. When AI does name local businesses, it names small agencies with simple, well-indexed service pages.

How the study was run

July 2026. Five buyer questions × three web-grounded engines (ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Claude) × three runs each. Every named provider and cited source was recorded. Full disclosure: this study was run by Pulse (AI Studio Pte Ltd), a Singapore AI content engine — and for transparency, Pulse itself appeared in just 1 of the 45 answers. This page reports what the engines said, including the parts that flatter our competitors and not us.

The three patterns in the data

1. Corroboration beats content. The local agencies that won "done-for-you" queries have no big blogs — they have plain service pages that are well indexed and referenced. Being present in the sources engines read mattered more than publishing volume.

2. One video can win a category. One tool earned its citations for "a month of content at once" largely off a single YouTube demo showing the workflow. Engines treat demonstration video as strong evidence a product does what it claims.

3. Statistics and benchmarks get cited. The only source engines quoted for the cost question was a pricing-benchmark blog post. Engines actively look for concrete numbers they can repeat — which is partly why this page exists.

What this means if you run a Singapore SME

If you ask an AI assistant who should run your social media, today it will mostly send you to global software or a shortlist of small local agencies. The "built for Singapore" category is genuinely open — the engines themselves say so. For businesses: check what AI says about your own category before your customers do. For tool makers and agencies: the answer box only has three to six seats, and they're won in listicles, reviews, community threads, benchmarks and video — not on your own homepage.

FAQ

Do AI assistants recommend Singapore-built marketing tools?

Almost never. In our July 2026 test of 45 web-grounded answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude, 44 of 45 named only global tools like Buffer, Canva, Hootsuite and SocialBee. Perplexity stated outright that no major AI marketing tools are built exclusively for Singapore SMEs. Local names appeared mainly as small agencies for done-for-you queries.

Which tools does AI recommend most for social media content?

In our 45 answers: Buffer, Canva AI, ChatGPT Plus, Hootsuite, Later, Predis.ai, FeedHive and SocialBee dominated tool questions. For done-for-you services in Singapore, engines named small local agencies such as Vixech, To Be Social and Luna Loom — mostly on the strength of simple, well-indexed service pages.

What makes an AI assistant cite a business?

Corroboration. Engines synthesize from the sources their search index returns — listicles, review platforms, community threads, pricing benchmarks and video. In our data, one competitor earned citations largely from a single YouTube demo video, and a pricing-benchmark blog was cited for cost questions. Businesses absent from those source types were absent from the answers.

How was this study run?

Five buyer questions were asked three times each on three web-grounded engines (ChatGPT search, Perplexity, Claude) in July 2026 — 45 answers total. We recorded every named tool or provider and every cited source. The study was run by Pulse (AI Studio Pte Ltd); for transparency, Pulse itself appeared in 1 of 45 answers.

Why does AI search visibility matter for Singapore SMEs?

Because a growing share of buyers now ask AI assistants for recommendations instead of scrolling search results. An AI answer names only three to six providers. If your business is not in the sources engines read, you are not in the answer — invisible at the exact moment a buyer asks who to hire.
